You receive an error when attempting to open Plesk control panel

You receive an error when attempting to access Plesk. Here's the most common reasons this occurs:

  1. The Client Centre says "Action Failed Unable to auto-login" or provides an API error: this means your Plesk login credentials are out of sync with the Client Centre. See below for solution.
  2. Your firewall is blocking access to port 8443 (common for work firewalls) or all unknown SSL connections (very rare; this is an older office firewall thing)
  3. You are connected to a VPN that does not allow connections on port 8443

Follow the steps below for solutions and workarounds.

I get a login screen for Plesk and don't know the username and password OR you get Plesk API errors in the Client Centre.

To resolve this you will need to update your Plesk password to force a sync between the Client Centre and Plesk:

  • Login to the Client Centre. If you are already logged in, when you visit that link, choose “Dashboard” from the menu at the top of the screen.
  • Click the “Settings” button beside the hosting plan you wish to work on.
  • Scroll down and look under the Control Panel section for the "Password" heading and click the Change button
  • Click the Generate Password button to have it create a new secure password automatically.
  • Choose "Save Changes"
  • If you get "Password Change Failed!" please open a ticket and let us know that you followed these steps but the password change failed.
  • If the password change was successful, click the Open Plesk Control Panel button

If you are unable to login even after resetting the password, please open a ticket to have us investigate.

Firewall or VPN Issues...

If you're connected to a VPN, disconnect from the VPN before attempting to access the Plesk login page.

If you are behind a firewall that blocks all SSL (secure connections), then you will not be able to access our Plesk Control Panel. Additionally, if your firewall does not allow communications on port 8443, you will be prevented access to the panel. You must change the settings in your firewall to allow SSL connections, or contact your system administrator in order to use Plesk from that location. This problem is most commonly found within office environments.

If you are getting an error logging in, and you are within an office, try on your home computer before requesting support.
